Darvin Ham Fired as Lakers Head Coach

Eight Different Coaches Since 2010-11

Two Full Years Left on Contract

Darvin Ham is no longer the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. The team fired Ham on Friday, June 3, 2022, with two full years left on his contract. Ham was hired in June 2022 and led the Lakers to a 33-49 record in his lone season at the helm.

The Lakers will now be led by their eighth different coach since 2010-11. The team has struggled to find stability since the departure of Phil Jackson, and has failed to make it out of the first round of the playoffs since 2012.

Ham's firing comes as a surprise, as he was widely praised for his work with the Lakers this season. However, the team's disappointing record and failure to make the playoffs likely led to his dismissal.

The Lakers are now expected to begin a search for a new head coach. Several candidates have already been linked to the job, including former Lakers coach Frank Vogel and current Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham.
