Fire Safety Update: Commercial Fire Pits and Outdoor Cooking Regulations

Current Status of the Blue 2 Fire

The Blue 2 Fire, located 8 miles north of Ruidoso in the White Mountain Wilderness Area, continues to burn. Alamogordo firefighters have been deployed to Ruidoso to assist in firefighting efforts.

Commercial Fire Pits

Commercial fire pits are permitted for use only with specific approval from the Fire Marshal. Those seeking approval must demonstrate strict adherence to safety regulations.

Outdoor Cooking

Outdoor cooking is allowed on all types of grills, including charcoal, gas, and electric. However, open flames, such as campfires or brush piles, remain prohibited.

Emergency Evacuations

Residents of a village in southern New Mexico were recently ordered to evacuate their homes due to fire concerns. The Ruidoso Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is closely monitoring the situation and providing updates to the community.
